Americký trumpetista, rodák z Nového Mexika a laureát Grammy z roku 1984, Bobby Shew začal hrát na trubku v 10 letech. Od 60. let působil jako leader v nejprestižnějších amerických Big Bandech a tanečních orchestrech například: Tommy Dorseye, Woodyho Hermana, Buddyho Riche, Bennyho Goodmana, Akiyoshi/Tabackina, Louie Bellsona, Maynarda Fergusona a dalších. Od 80.let nahrává řadu vlastních jazzových alb. V uplynulých letech se vedle koncertní činnosti a nahrávání věnuje pedagogické činnosti a je jedním z nejvyhledávanějších pedegogů mezi jazzovými hráči v USA. Byl dlouholetým členem představenstva Mezinárodní trumpetové asociace a 16 let předsedou trumpetové sekce Mezinárodního jazzového pedagogického sdružení.

I just want to express my deepest thanks for the wonderful honor you and your members bestowed upon me last week in Praha. To be selected as an Honorary Member of this organization really means a great deal to me. As a „jazzer“, it is especially nice to be associated with so many fine trumpet players in the Czech Republic. Having first me Miroslav Kejmar some years ago has turned out to be a fantastic blessing for me. He, as you know, was the man who first organized bringing me to Praha and now to some other cities in your country. Miroslav is such a phenomenal virtuoso, I feel honored to shake his hand. Also having met Arnold Kinkal has been so great for me as well. His kindness and generosity towards me are beyond belief.

So, I am having the certificate of membership put into a very nice frame so it can hang in a special place in my office and studio. Once again, I thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for this great honor.
